Instructions (Ok time to get a little serious here ;)
Please follow these instructions carefully
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS:
Remember you are not being tested. This website is being tested for effectiveness. In order to do this, please do not cheat and look for answers while taking the tests and quizzes. Please do not go back to pages that contain answer while taking tests and quizzes. This honest progression will allow a more accurate measurement of this websites success rate and what needs to be improved.
You need to come up with your own code name. Please write this codename down somewhere to keep track of it so you don't forget it. Use this code name to enter into an input box when prompted. This will happen on the consent form, surveys, tests, and quizzes. This is to keep track of your progress before, during, and after the completing the website module. This is also to keep your anonymity.
To ensure you follow the sequence of pages on this website, use only the blue buttons on the very bottom of these pages to proceed to the next step. Please do not use the website tabs above unless you have to close the website and turn off your computer for some reason and then come back. If you take a break from your computer, please keep track of where you last left the site so you can return to it later.
You do have to complete the entire web module. However, you do not have to complete the entire web module from beginning to end in 1 sitting. For example, you can do Activity #1 and Quiz #1 in about 30 minutes perhaps. You leave the website, shut down your computer, and then come back to it tomorrow to move on to Activity #2 and Quiz #2.
When filling a survey, test, or quiz, do not finish part way and then close the window or move to another page. This will cancel any work you did on your survey, test, or quiz. All quizzes, tests, and surveys must be completely filled, answered, and submitted by pushing the small white/grey "submit" button at the end of your quiz, test, or survey. Make sure to press this "submit" button before you press the blue buttton to proceed to the next step.
To listen how to pronounce words and phrases, click all the blue links throughout this website to hear an audio MP3 file. It will appear in another tab/window. Say the words and phrases out loud as you play the MP3. When you are finished practicing, simply close the MP3 window and return to the main website.
There is an audio recording tool called Vocaroo on each activity page. Vocaroo allows you to record your voice, listen to it, and re-record to practice your pronunciation.
There are Screencasts on each activity page that explains some of the vocabulary and grammar principles to give you deeper insight of the content you are learning.
There is 1 quiz per activity ... 10 quizzes total. Each quiz is right after the activity you have completed.
There are 2 flash games that are like fun flash cards that test your ability to remember words and phrases quickly. The first game "chunks" together activities 1 to 5. The second game "chunks" together activities 6 to 10. These games will help you remember content from previous activities, review what you learned, prepare your for the post-test, and show non-examples of Japanese words and phrases.
You must take the pre-test, quizzes, post-test, and surveys on this site.
It is suggested that you go through and listen to each audio link and practice with the Vocaroo tool, go through each Screencast, and play and complete the flash games until you win.
